RED DEER – The Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) has released its schedule for the 2024-25 regular season for the U18 AAA, U18 AA, U15 AA and U13 AA divisions.
A total of 703 games have been scheduled across the four divisions. The regular season starts October 2 for the U18 AAA division and October 18 for the U18 AA, U15 AA and U13 AA divisions.
Each division will also feature a Showcase weekend. The U18 AA Showcase will be played in Lloydminster November 1-3, while the U15 AA Showcase is taking the teams south to Lethbridge November 8-10. The U13 AA and U18 AAA Showcases will each take place in Red Deer, December 6-8 and December 20-22, respectively.
“Looking to this season as female hockey continues to grow in the province, it is very exciting for us to bring elite female hockey to communities across the province and continue to promote and build the female game,” said Jody Forbes, Elite Female Chair.
The 2024-25 season is icing an AFHL record of 50 teams. With the announcement of the league expansion in January, two teams are joining the U18 AAA division. Sherwood Park and a second team in Calgary will join the original six teams in Red Deer, Edmonton, Calgary, Lloydminster, Okotoks and St. Albert. Twelve teams comprise the U18 AA division, with the U15 AA division made up of 14. While the U13 AA division is suiting up for their second season with 16 teams.
“As we enter our ninth season of the AFHL, I’ve had some time to reflect on the success of last season. We rolled out the U13 AA division featuring 16 teams, we had over 50 AFHL athletes commit to post-secondary programs in North America and we had our U18 AAA league champions win bronze at the Esso Cup,” said Forbes.
The AFHL will hope to bring home another medal at the Esso Cup this season as Lloydminster will host the top U18 AAA teams from across the country, April 20-26.
