AFHL season set to kick off this weekend

RED DEER – The sixth season in Alberta Female Hockey League (AFHL) history is set to begin across the province this weekend.

The U18 AAA regular season will kick off on Saturday, October 2, while a number of teams from the U15 AA and U18 AA divisions will begin with a pre-season FireStarter tournament in Calgary on October 1. Both the U15AA and U18AA regular seasons will start on October 15.

The U18 AAA season gets going on Saturday afternoon with four games. The St. Albert Bauer Slash will visit the Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, The Lloydminster PWM Steelers will take on the Edmonton Pandas, and in the evening, the Calgary Fire will play the Rocky Mountain Raiders.

Meanwhile, five U15 AA teams and seven U18AA teams will participate in the season opening FireStarter tournament hosted by the Calgary Fire.  The regular season will begin with one U15AA game and two U18AA games on October 15, with more games continuing through the weekend.

The Alberta Elite Hockey League regular season will begin on October 1, and will continue with games all weekend.
