AFHL U15 AA Post-Season Preview

RED DEER – The AFHL U15 AA season has reached its completion, and 14 teams are bidding for the league championship.

The first round of playoffs is set for this weekend, with the first series starting Thursday, February 29 between Calgary Fire Black and the Rocky Mountain Raiders. The remaining five series kick off on Friday, March 1.

The Edmonton Pandas Black and Lloydminster Richardson Jewellery Steelers battled for top spot in the North Division all season with Edmonton clinching top spot with 74 points compared to Lloydminster’s 73. They were dominant teams in their division as Edmonton Pandas Gold finished third with 47 points.

The South Division belonged to the Airdrie Lightning (25-3-3) for a league-leading 77 points. They had the third highest goal differential (128 goals for, 62 goals against and +66 overall). They were followed by Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs, Calgary Fire Red and Rocky Mountain Raiders.

Edmonton Pandas Black forward Riley Cooper had an outstanding season, registering nearly three points per game. She scored 42 goals and totalled 86 points in 31 games to take home the league’s scoring title and led the league in goals. Edmonton Pandas Black goaltender Mattia Naranjilla had the best goals-against-average at 1.71 and Edmonton Pandas Gold Sophie Quaschnick is the leader in save percentage at .937. Red Deer Sutter Fund Chiefs Heidi Moos posted a league best 17 wins.


Airdrie and Pandas Black advance directly to the second round of playoffs, awaiting the winners of this weekend’s first round series. First round series are best-of-three and feature the following matchups:

North Division

(3) Edmonton Pandas Gold vs (6) RB Oilfield Hauling PCFAC Storm

(4) St. Albert Raiders Chargers vs (5) Sherwood Park Royals 


South Division

(3) Calgary Fire Red vs (6) Calgary Fire White

(4) Rocky Mountain Raiders vs (5) Calgary Fire Black
